Narrative Therapy

A problem can affect your life without becoming your identity.

Narrative telehealth therapy for Missouri adults and couples who want to examine the stories built around struggle, difference, responsibility, and possibility.

You are more than the narrowest story told about you.

Separate person and problem

Naming a problem differently can change your relationship to it.

Shame often turns a struggle into an identity: unreliable, too much, cold, lazy, broken. Narrative therapy examines how that story formed, who benefits from it, and what it leaves out. The problem remains real.

It simply stops being the only available description of you or your relationship.

Notice what was missed

Your values are often visible in the ways you have resisted the problem.

We may look for moments when the familiar pattern had less control, when you acted from care despite fear, or when another person recognized a strength the dominant story ignored.

Those details help build language for a fuller identity and more intentional next choices.

Question the old story

Bring a label or story that has started to feel too small. Bethany can explain how narrative work may help you see context, values, and overlooked exceptions.
